The 52nd Art Cologne starts in Koelnmesse on April 19th. It is the oldest fair of its kind. More than 200 commercial galleries will present art works from over 2.000 artists.
The fair focuses on art of the 20th and 21st centuries: In hall 11.1 visitors find Modern & Postwar Art, in Hall 11.2 Contemporary Art is put on display and Hall 11.3 is reserved for the segments NEUMARKT and COLLABORATIONS. The NEUMARKT section gives insights into current art production. In the "COLLABORATIONS" area galleries show 22 selected curated projects on joint stands. The trade fair is rounded off by special events and the ART COLOGNE Talks Lounge. The Central Archive of the International Art Trade (ZADIK) presents „The Koeln Show“, networks of avant-garde galleries in the Nineties. It built trans-European and transatlantic bridges in 1990, when it presented works by 66 artists from Europe, the USA and Japan. With the special exhibition entitled “Comeback” a major player in the field of corporate collecting is returning to Art Cologne: The collection of the Landesbank Baden-Württemberg (LBBW) Is said to be one of the most exceptional collections in the business sector. It focuses on art from the 1980s and 1990s.
Last but not least the ART COLOGNE Talks Lounge presents a high quality talk programme during the trade fair. On Thursday, April 19th, panelists discuss scandals in the art business (“Changing values - In cooperation with Monopol”). On Friday and Saturday “Art and economy in dialogue” and “Where are we headed in the web?” are subjects of the debate. On Sunday, the final day of the trade fair, visitors are taken on a time travel tour, starting with the founding of the Bauhaus. Further stages are the art of the 1968 generation, the "wild 90s" and the future of images in the age of digitalisation.
